About this event
Laurel Hill Cemetery is a leader in the “Green Burial” movement of natural funeral and burial services. Laurel Hill offers a variety of eco-friendly services and a commitment to sustainability.
There are three special areas for green burials. “Nature’s Sanctuary” in West Laurel Hill is currently a meadow that will transition to a forest. No gas-powered equipment is used; the graves are hand-dug. “Valley View Green” in Laurel Hill East is a peaceful area with tall grasses and shrubs; it was created using some repurposed materials, including part of Laurel Hill’s original fence. “Bala Green” in West Laurel Hill is a memorial meadow with walking paths and benches. Only biodegradable or environmentally friendly caskets and urns may be used in these areas.
In the Zoom presentation, Gregg Tepper, the Lead Horticulturist, will show images of these beautiful areas throughout the seasons and explain the careful planning that goes into the development of these areas to lessen impact on the environment and create a beautiful space.
Thinking ahead and pre-planning can help ensure that your wishes are carried out and that your loved ones are spared the burden of making decisions at an emotionally difficult time. Tom Cavanaugh, the Director of Cemetery Sales & Family Services, will talk about the importance of pre-planning.
Both Tepper and Cavanaugh will be able to answer questions..
Everyone is welcome to participate in the Zoom, but registration is required.
